The Self Portrait

The self portrait has long been the source of subject matter to artists for reasons known only to themselves. For me, it is an opportunity to examine who and where I am at a particular time. This usually occurs at a point in time when my energies are focused on doing a series of works related to a certain subject , or, when there is a shift in my approach to a subject. Metaphorically, it is a return home after being away for a while.
